What is CPR?

CPR or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a set of actions meant to help a victim of a sudden cardiac arrest. A cardiac arrest is the sudden stop of effective blood flow through a person’s body, due to heart failure. The symptoms include the absence of breathing, loss of consciousness, while the victim becomes unresponsive to shaking and various other stimuli. However, when a person undergoes a sudden cardiac arrest, there’s still enough air in their lungs to sustain the heart and brain function.

CPR combines chest compression with artificial ventilation, in order to preserve brain function, until further measures are taken to restore blood flow and the person’s breathing.

What does a CPR class involve?

In general, CPR classes don’t take long. The full training takes up to three hours. A CPR class aims to teach the CPR trainees to identify a sudden cardiac arrest, initiate an emergency response, and administer chest compressions. Then a test is given to determine whether or not the trainees have assimilated all the information correctly, and finally they will receive their certification.

How much does CPR certification cost?

What is an AED?

AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator. These are computerized devices used to check a person’s cardiac rhythm in order to determine whether they require a shock or not. It uses text messages, light signals or even voice messages, informing the operator whether a patient requires a shock for the restoration of their heart rhythm.
